About the Program
Saving Howler Monkeys Together is a nationwide project that provides successful rewilding for orphaned, rescued, and rehabilitated howler monkeys in Costa Rica. To accomplish this, the program gives medical care, enrichment, and nurturing of skills howler monkeys need to ensure a successful release back into the wild.
Saving Howler Monkeys Together receives injured monkeys and orphans too young to survive in the wild. Although we had been caring for rescued monkeys for years, the program was started to improve our release capabilities, especially for rescued baby monkeys.
The program started in 2023.
What Dangers do Howler Monkeys Face
Human activities such as agriculture, logging, and urbanization also bring them into closer contact with humans, increasing the risk of conflicts, including electrocution on power lines and vehicle collisions. Climate change further impacts their survival by altering their ecosystems and disrupting their food sources. These cumulative threats make it crucial to protect and conserve howler monkeys and their habitats to ensure their long-term survival.
