He began his journey at the Ranch as a local TCU volunteer and quickly advanced to an HQ Clinic Intern position, where he focused on wildlife casualties, diagnostic approaches, and therapeutic treatments.
Following his internship, Santiago worked with Dra. Janet Sandí at various wildlife organizations and as a backup for the veterinary staff at TRR.
In his role as Vet Supervisor, Santiago maintains records of wildlife casualties and analyzes them to identify potential threats to local fauna.
He plays a crucial role in diagnostic procedures, including X-rays, ultrasonography, and laboratory tests, and supports the team with surgical and therapeutic methods, such as regenerative medicine techniques using tilapia skin and collagen. Additionally, he oversees the implementation of preventive medicine protocols to ensure the well-being of the animals in the sanctuary.
Biography
Santiago Garcia Dobles is a Veterinary Supervisor at Toucan Rescue Ranch with a degree in Veterinary Medicine from Costa Rica National University. He began as a local TCU volunteer, advanced to an HQ Clinic Intern, and worked alongside Dra. Janet Sandí at various wildlife organizations. Santiago manages wildlife casualty records, assists in diagnostics and surgeries, and implements preventive medicine protocols. His work includes using advanced techniques like tilapia skin and collagen for therapeutic treatments.
